YTV: The Next Star

YTV's Next Star website screenshot

YTV came to Pixelpusher with a question: What can we do to migrate the excitement of the show into the online space? Pixelpusher added a number of different features to Next Star’s site to encourage fans to interact with the brand. The first was a “Star Booster” section, where fans could post user generated content to improve their favourite star’s standing in the competition. Now, we know what you’re thinking, “I wonder if anyone from Pixelpusher posted video of themselves singing and dancing?” The answer is... uhm... no.

Nissan: Good Decisions

Nissa Good Decisions website screenshot

Calling out the name of your high school girlfriend while you’re in bed with your wife? Bad decision. Designing and building a website that uses Augmented Reality to project a customized 3D environment onto a piece of paper? Good decision. This site garnered ooohs, aaahs and was awarded a Website of the Week award from thefwa.com. (Good decision on their part.)

Versa: Bounce

The Versa doesn’t drip testosterone like a ’72 Gran Torino. Nor does it possess the T-Pain bling of a Maybach 62. Even better - it has bounce yo! At least its website does. This innovative site uses a webcam to capture user movements. As they bounce their head up and down, the Versa bounces right along with them. Hey-yo!

Honda: Pilot

No, it’s the name of the SUV so get your goggles off, no flying today. What we’ve got here is a slick, little flash site with lots of pretty pictures and graphic finery but without the fuel consumption of other SUV’s.

You’ve never searched for a job like this before! Designed from the ground up by Pixelpusher, this makes those tedious hours looking for job opportunities more like walking through a weird village in spring with lots of crazy shit all over the place. Have fun, but watch out for that dude on the bike, we don’t trust him.

RBC Centre site

See that real tall new building added to Toronto's skyline. No, not that one. Not that one either. To the left. No. No. No. Those are all condos and that's a tree. Oh for goodness sake! Just check the site we created, it has some nice flashiness and lots of high-flying views!

Nissan: Versa nights

We hear you like to wear short skirts and party till the break of dawn. You're a dude? Well not according to this picture. Don't worry bro (416-591-6660), we promise not to tell anyone. Anyway, we took the Nissan Versa up to the clubs and partied till the break of dawn, or rather we hunched over our computers and worked till the break of dawn to get this awesome video/flash game site up in some ridiculously short amount of time.

MINI: Dominatrix

Mini Dominatrix website screenshot

Sex sells. In MINI’s case it was a little S&M. Working with custom video footage of a dominatrix whipping a car into winter shape we created an interactive website to highlight MINI’s handling capabilities. We spent long hours on this and it hurt. It also paid off. The site won a Gold Lion at Cannes.

MINI: Black sheep

Mini Black Sheep website screenshot

Sex with sheep sells. Just kidding. It sure as hell doesn’t! This site compared MINI’s lineup with the “black sheep” in every family. Using flash, music and a wry but friendly voiceover, this site garnered a lot of attention for the client - MINI, and the agency - TAXI.

MINI: Convertablizerometer

Mini Convertablizerometer

Who doesn’t love/want/drool to have a convertible? Well, now anyone can have one with the Convertible-izer-ometer. Again working with TAXI, Pixelpusher developed a fun site that got people, not us, taking off their tops. We’re pasty web developers, not buff Speedo models.

AMP'D: Pinata

AMP'd Pinata website screenshot

Hmm. We need to sell some cell phones. I know! Let’s make a phone piñata that you can bash with a stick. Instead of candy, we’ll have things like kick boxers and cowboys drop out. Perfect! Let’s hire Pixelpusher – they can build anything!. (Excerpt of an actual conversation at TAXI before briefing us on what turned into a very unique flash based site to promote Amp’d Mobile’s entertainment features.)

Honda: SUV

Honda SUV website screenshot

Trucks are awesome dude. This site uses flash, sound and an interactive interface to highlight the superior awesomeness that is the Honda Unibody Truck system. We didn’t get any free trucks from the agency, but that was ok cause we got to work with images of trucks all day and that in itself was totally awesome.

Canadian Tire: Outdoor Room

Canadian Tire: Outdoor Room website screenshot

Nobody was happier about Canadian Tire’s decision to ditch their “every-goddamn-tool-in-the-book wielding, perfectly-trimmed-beard-sporting, smiley-guy-spokesperson” than we were. It gave us an opportunity to work on this successful and fun flash site that integrated photography and flash animation to help set a tonal departure for the brand.

Konami: Gaming Machines Site

Konami Gaming Machines Website screenshot

What designer/programmer wouldn’t want to work on the website of the company that introduced the world to 1981’s hit game Frogger? Seriously. It was an honour. Granted, this site had nothing to do with Frogger, but it is a good example of a fully integrated CMS (content management system) site.

Pirates eking out a living in some crazy distant future. The earth shattered into a million pieces. For reals?! Skyland is the place to be. Actually, Skyland doesn’t exist. It’s a TV show. This website, designed with innovative interactive elements, back-stories, flash games and high intrigue gets kids psyched to watch the new show.

Hidden Connections

Hidden Connections website screenshot

Question: What do you get when Ma Bell, in her unending benevolence, hands out an arts grant?

Answer: If you’re us, you get an opportunity to work on something really cool. This unique flash site was essentially a conceptual art piece developed with a local designer who won said grant.

Advice: Pray that you receive a Bell-fund Grant. It’s where your phone bill money goes.
