When BlackBerry asked us and Maritz Canada to help launch its PlayBook tablet, we knew we had a big challenge: a major telecommunications brand was launching their make-or-break new product. Like all of BlackBerry’s products, our work had to be slick, and delivered to a high level of technical expertise. But we’d also have to go beyond expectations and create excitement.

Working with Maritz, Pixelpusher’s task was to create an interactive environment for fifteen launch parties in cities ranging from Toronto to New York City. BlackBerry also wanted us to build six new games for the devices – from scratch. As if that wasn’t enough, we had to do it while the PlayBook was still being developed. The games had to feel like they had spent years in development, but we only had a fraction of the time to work on them. For the events, we were also asked to create a Twitter fountain that allowed the event-goers to create stories as a group.
In the end, the events were a hit. Our six games showed off the tablet’s high definition screen and fluid responsiveness. In total, more than 32,000 games were played on the devices at the fifteen events. Buzz was generated on the Twitter fountain and across the Internet, and our client loved our work. Expressing creativity, overcoming challenges and doing work that surprises and excites? Sounds like a regular day for us.
